Let’s be real — there's been a noticeable shortage of upbeat or fresh-sounding Christmas tracks from indie gospel artists in recent years. But leave it to The Carey Sisters – Heart2Heart to shake things up just enough to get our attention — and our respect.
Their take on “O Holy Night” isn’t exactly upbeat in tempo, but the moment that hip hop-inspired beat drops before the melody even kicks in? We were sold. It’s a subtle but bold move — layering timeless worship with a modern bounce that feels intentional and inspired, not forced.
The vocals? Silky, sincere, and in perfect harmony — no surprise, considering this trio shares more than just a mic; they share a legacy. Katrice Cornett, Yvette Owens, and Thilana Bennett have woven a sound that feels both reverent and refreshingly relevant.
This track — and the entire Rejoice album, released October 2024 — reflects everything The Carey Sisters stand for: faith, family, and a fearless approach to worship. From “Silent Night” to the high-energy “Glory, Honor and Praise,” they’ve given us a project that honors tradition while reaching into new sonic spaces.
“O Holy Night” may not make you dance — but it’ll make you nod, make you listen, and maybe even make you worship a little harder this season. It’s a rare indie add-on to our Christmas rotation — and a worthy one.
