NEW TINA CAMPBELL

ALSO GOSPEL DRAMA & BEEFS

Before we get into the great new single by Tina Campbell, I have a confession... The last issue had Juanita Bynum on the cover before being changed to Malcolm X. Mainly because Juanita spoke on women in gospel music and the church who have “their cleavage out” and tight dresses “showing all their curves and booty”. Although I agree with SOME of the disgust she has, the Spirit wouldn’t let me print it. Juanita herself is in the midst of alleged drama and beef. I’ll admit, I’m guilty of listening and enjoying hateful messy sermons. Not just Juanita but also Gino Jennings. Even though he preaches the word, he seems to be more popular for the “attack sermons” we see online. Forgive me also for enjoying any drama Kirk Franklin is involved in. Let’s make this clear, I LOVE Kirk Franklin’s music and production. His spew on muslims, his drama with his son and his latest documentary has been a complete turn off for me. Here’s where I had to check myself.

“ For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.” - James 3:16

So what should we do? For starters, focus on you without hating on someone else. Yes I need to listen to my own sermon LOL. I should ignore the lifestyle and beliefs of Kirk Franklin that annoy/offend me and appreciate his annointing talent of song writing and music production he has. But will Pastor Gino ignore the false prophets and focus on his ministry? Will Juanita Bynum ignore the sexy dressed women of gospel and focus on her ministry? None of us has any control over what they focus on or preach on. We only have control on how we react to them.

22 But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires. - Galatians 5:22-24 (Good News Bible)

Since entering into this world of gospel music a short time ago, I've noticed the envy and worldly ambitions is just as deep and evil as what I experienced in the hip hop/R&B world. However, the gospel industry has an attribute I admire. Most of those outside of the church or gospel industry will call that attribute DECEIPT. At least hip hop and R&B artists admit to the cussin', drankin', smokin', love of money, fornication and hatin' on the next artist. They even put it in their lyrics! Preachers, Gospel/Christian Musicians rarely touch on these subjects even though they are all in the Bible. There is an art to spreading God's message and becoming wealthy without looking like a bad guy. Part of the reason I'm a fan of Dave and Tamela Mann. Besides being a talented couple, there's no drama around them. Dave come teach me how you do it bruh! Folks are getting rich from what Jesus did for free. With all the money comes the envy. Someone who is not so successful feels they are better qualified than the mega church mega wealthy pastor or multi-platinum christian singer. Gospel and Christian musicians are in cliques like any other industry. Just like all the cussin' and drankin', they don't speak on it and avoid displaying it to the media. But Gino and Juanita will speak on whoever and say their names...then the disorder begins. And I proceed to the popcorn machine for some messy gospel entertainment.

ITS ALL GOSPEL MUSIC ADDS AND REVIEWS

Music Director Chaddy Bear delivers one of my faves. Tina Campbell is back with another new school hip trap church track. “Pray For Me” is the first single off her new album. You can’t lose with a fire track and some vocals that would do fine as an accapella.

Ally Mo is keeping my gospel b-boy palette satisfied by adding Terrian with “Big God”. Terrian has been labeled as contemporary christian artist. It might be hittin’ in them big christian mega-churches but IT‘S ALL GOSPEL to us.

Staying in the miggy miggy mix y’all is Micah Lee with “Clap My Way”. Caliente!

LaNorris McFadden slaps us with contemporary uptempo DC go-go choir soundin’ joint “Praise Tell Ya!”

The only one bringin’ us something close to traditional churchy is Courtney Tiara with a contemporary quartet sound entitled “I’m Tired”.
