Tony D – “Church Jam”
Now let’s be honest, when you hear the title “Church Jam” you’re probably expecting a Hammond B-3, a tambourine in the corner and somebody’s auntie hitting that high note she wasn’t really supposed to hit. But nope...Tony D flipped it. This track doesn’t sound like a church jam at all. Matter of fact, it feels like a lost jam session with Sly and the Family Stone after service let out. Funky, jazzy and groovin’ so smooth you almost forget you’re listening to a man whose roots run deep in the gospel scene.
So why is IAG Radio spinning this joint if it doesn’t sound “churchy”? Because real recognizes real. Tony D is church...word! He lives it, breathes it and plays it, so even when he slides into a jazzy instrumental lane, that spirit still comes through. And let’s be clear, the joint flat out jams!
Now don’t get it twisted, we’ve played jazzy instrumentals before, like Ernest Zackery’s track, which still carried that Sunday service flavor. But Tony D? He just came in and said, “I’mma groove y’all into the Kingdom with no words needed.” And we’re here for it.
Bottom line: if we can play urban gospel with soulful vocals that bump, then why not ride out to a fly instrumental that bumps just as hard? Tony D, you rocked this one, bruh. And yes, it definitely helps that we know exactly who you are.
